National DECA!!

April 30-May 4, 4 Storm Lake High School Students competed at National DECA in Orlando, FL. The students did their best, but unfortunately did not make it up on stage.  Seeing thousands and thousands of students from all over the US that are interested in the same thing is just awesome! Teachers are not allowed to watch students compete, which is quite a bummer for me.  I took my students to the convention center and basked in the sun (and charred myself) until their competition was over.

The highlight for me is always the pin-trading. Each state creates a DECA pin that represents their state.  You are able to trade these pins throughout the conference.  I ended up with a lanyard full of pins, and was quite proud of myself.  My students really got into it this year, too.

The weather was fabulous--in the 90's--so we all thoroughly enjoyed it! We were able to do some side trips in between our competition times.  The students chose Magic Kingdom, Universal Studios, and Seaworld.  My chaperone and I both quickly learned that we are no longer teenagers--many of the rides made us nauceous for the remainder of the day. Who knew there was a roller coaster where you ride on your stomach--NEVER AGAIN!

All in all it was a fabulous trip!  Next year we are headed to Salt Lake City!
