My DECA students competed at their first District Competition ever on Tuesday, January 18. We had 5 students place in the Accounting category: Samantha Kavan(2nd), Alex Nyren (3rd), Iwa Chanthavong and Lou Arreola (tied for 5th). One student placed in the Auto category: Evan Stevenson. Pel Deng received an honorable mention for his work in the Restaurant and Food Service category. Juan Chavez place 2nd in our Retail Category and Derek Carlson received an honorable mention. Michael McCabe and KJ Besch competed as a team in the Sports and Entertainment category and placed 3rd. Tori Peck and Amanda Kavan competed as a team in the Travel and Tourism catory and tied for 3rd place. Ryan Moore placed 2nd in the Principles of Business Management and Administration category while Erick Carrillo and John Bral received honorable mentions.
Overall, it was a great day! The students learned what they will be changing for their state competition. They will be able to change their category for state as there are more to choose from.
State competition is February 27 and 28 in Des Moines.

DECA!!
The Marketing class here at SLHS is preparing for their first DECA competition on Tuesday, January 18. Our competition will be held in Sioux City. We will be competing against the following schools: SE Webster, Remsen, Okoboji, Fort Dodge, Aurelia, and Ames.
Students are able to choose from the following events to compete in: Accounting, Apparel and Accessories, Auto, Food Marketing, Restaurant and Food Service Management, Retail, Sports Marketing, Travel and Tourism, Principle of Business Management and Administration
The end of February brings our State competition in Des Moines. The students that advance at our state competition will then advance to the national competition in Orlando at the end of April.
